Myopia Control

Myopia, or short sightedness, affects about 30% of the population. Due to genetics and lifestyle changes, more children are developing myopia. High levels of myopia can affect quality of life and ocular health. Changes to lifestyle including spending more time outdoors and limiting screen time can reduce the risk of myopia worsening. Specialist contact lenses have been designed to slow the progression of the condition.

Myopia tends to progress due to the eyeball growing too long in length. This prevents light focusing well at the back of the eye, causing blurred vision.

What can help?

Contact Lenses designed to slow myopia progression work by disrupting the signals that stimulate the eye to grow longer.

Orthokeratology:

These are hard lenses, worn overnight whilst sleeping. The lenses are removed during the day and the patient doesn’t require spectacles or contact lenses to see.

They work by reshaping the surface of the eye overnight, and on removing the lens, the eye temporarily retains the new shape providing clear vision.

MiSight Daily Disposable Contact Lenses:

Work like any other daily disposable contact lens, however they incorporate dual focus technology to control eyeball lengthening.

No cleaning or storage is required so they carry a very low risk of infection.

Both Orthokeratology and MiSight lenses are safe for children.
